Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) is an important aspect to consider for any business coming in contact with the public or for the welfare of its staff.  Though not a legal requirement, there is a fair consideration to the health and safety at work and the provision of use of work equipment act ensuring that equipment is in safe working order and suitable for the purpose and situation it is used in.
